Word Study Activities- HOMEWORK ACTIVITIES
Below is a list of activities you can do with your spelling words. Choose 3 different activities to complete each week. One must be sentences OR paragraph. This should be completed in your spelling notebook. Always write what activity you are doing at the top of the page. Also always underline your spelling words! Try to choose different activities each week. Your notebook is due on Fridays. Remember you will have a spelling test every Friday ☺
Write 10 sentences using as many spelling words as you can.
2) Word Sort Chart:
Make a chart in your notebook that is the same as the one in your Words Their Way book. Sort (by writing) the words into the correct columns.
3) Word Hunt:
Search through books and magazines and find words that follow your rule!! Write the name of the book or magazine on top of your page and the list 10 words you found that follow your rules.
Write a paragraph using as many of your spelling words as you can. UNDERLINE the spelling words you use. Remember a paragraph starts with an opening sentence, has 4-5 detail sentences in the middle and ends with a closing sentence.
5) Riddle Me:
Write a riddle for 10 of your spelling words. Give me 3 clues for each word. Make sure your number your clues and put the answer to each one on the back of your paper.
Example: 1) furry, 4 legs, barks
1) Dog (the number and the word would go on the back of the paper)
6) Draw and Label:
Draw a picture of a word and then write the word underneath. Do 10 words.
7) New Words, Same Rules:
Instead of writing your word sort words, make a new list of words that follow your weekly rules! Write at least 10 new words.
